The learning environment
Australia offers university degrees, vocational education and training, English-language study and other pathways. These serve different purposes and should not be compared only by price. For study on a student visa, use the official CRICOS register to investigate the provider and course alongside the institution's own information.
Choosing your course
Read course units, specialisations and assessment formats. For placements, clarify whether the university arranges them, what screening is needed and whether extra travel or equipment is required. Professional recognition deserves its own check if you plan to enter a regulated occupation.
Planning your budget
Build a full budget covering tuition, accommodation, transport, insurance, study materials and initial setup. Rent and commuting costs depend on the specific campus and neighbourhood. Compare quotes in Australian dollars and separately account for exchange-rate movement when funding comes from overseas.
Preparing applications
Entry requirements vary by level and provider. Prepare academic records, language evidence and any additional material the course requests. Read an offer's conditions, payment schedule and refund terms before accepting. Use official government guidance for visa requirements and keep that process separate from an academic offer.
Getting ready for arrival
Confirm your enrolment and orientation instructions, insurance arrangements and accommodation. Plan how to access transport and everyday essentials in the first week. Locate student support services early, including academic writing support, accessibility services and the international student team.
